Grey hair is in fashion

This is not a paid post.

Grey hair maybe in fashion but are you ready to embrace it? Over the past few years silver strands have become a trend with more and more people dying their hair this metallic shade before it naturally loses its pigment.

According to hair guru Michael Charalambous, silver is taking over from blonde as the most requested shade. “Those that still like blonde are opting for a pearly tinge,” he adds.

Even women who colour their hair are now adopting this steely hue. It stops the problem of having to go to the salon every few weeks to have those roots touched up.

A worrying factor is that grey will make you look older. “Not always so,” says Michael. “If you dress contemporary and have the right skin tone you can pull it off.”

It also depends on what shade of grey your hair turns. You may find that you need to add a few highlights or lowlights to enhance it. Grey hair can have a yellow tinge so you will have to use violet-toned shampoo to help neutralise the brassiness. It goes without saying that grey hair tends to be coarse and dry so you will have to ensure that you keep it well moisturised.

To go grey after you have been colouring your hair for years might not be an easy process, so talk to your hairdresser on what is the best way for you.

The right time to go grey depends on the individual. It might mean a complete change of wardrobe as your new hue might look wrong with what you were wearing previously.

Ultimately, you have to feel going grey is right for you.
