My hero make-up items

This is not a paid post. Products are press samples.

Over the years I have tested hundreds of products, some good, some not so good.

There are always new brands and new items on the market. While some stick around, others do not.

Trends come and go. Style never goes out of fashion. The no-make-up make-up is a classic that always looks chic.

MAC Powder Blush in Dame

Blusher is something I would never leave the house without even if I do not wear a foundation or BB cream. The right one can perk up your complexion and give you a lit-from-within glow.

I am always getting told how well I look even on days where I feel tired and drained. So I am going to let you in on my secret weapon, MAC Powder Blush in Dame, (£19.50). A swipe of this pretty blue-pink livens up my skin in an instant. It has a small amount of shimmer and a satin finish which gives your complexion a lovely sheen. It blends easily and is long-lasting. You know you are wearing it, other people do not as it gives a lovely pink flush that looks so natural. They just think you look healthy.

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

For lips is has to be Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey (£19.50), a beautiful plummy-violet hue that gives me that “my lips only better” look. It is moisturising, sheer and gives a subtle shine and just a hint of colour so it does not seem as if I am wearing anything. The shade was launched as a gloss over 45 years ago. The colour was created to work with every lip and skin tone.  In 1981 it changed to its current formula. The rest of that range is long gone. But Black Honey was so popular that the company continued it.

The trick is to find the right shades for your skin tone. MAC and Clinique have a good selection of both warm, cool and neutral shades. A lot of brands do not.

Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lash Multi Effects Mascara in black

A touch of nude eye shadow – both these brands and Clarins have good ones – makes my eyes appear brighter. A sweep of mascara opens them up. My favourite at the moment is Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Lash Multi Effects Mascara in black (£25.50).  Its clever brush lets you create different looks.

With one twist you can have volume and lift, length and separation or a bit of everything. So much better than having a wardrobe of mascaras. It also contains a blend of argan, jojoba and coconut oils and conditioners so you know you are taking care of your lashes.

Now I am ready to go.
