The best nude nail polishes

This is not a paid post. Products are press samples.

A nude nail polish always looks chic and you do not notice the chips which is especially good when you are travelling.

The right nude should subtly enhance your nails and let them show through so they look bright and fresh. The trick, I find, is to use only one coat plus a base and top coat.

Over the years I have experimented with dozens of shades Essie Nail Lacquer in Mademoiselle (£7.99, Boots) is one of the best. It is sheer and glides on easily and wears well. My only gripe is in the sun it can turn slightly yellow.

Chanel Le Vernis in Ballerina (£18), a soft pink which adds a slight hint of colour to the nails, is another one I have tried.

YSL La Laque Couture in Rose Abstrait (£19.50) is my favourite. It is hard to beat this translucent pale pink which goes on like a dream and gives your nails a gorgeous sheen making them look healthy and oh so elegant. It also is an extremely good quality long-lasting nail lacquer. If you prefer a slighter beiger tone, go for Beige Leger (£19.50).

YSL La Laque Couture in Blanc Arty (£19.50) is a great white. One coat gives the nails a lovely fresh look especially with sun-kissed skin.
